Africa is one of the world's premier birding destinations, boasting extraordinary avian diversity thanks to its vast range of habitats—from lush rainforests and montane "sky islands" to expansive savannas, arid deserts, wetlands, and coastal regions. The continent (including Madagascar and nearby islands) is home to approximately 2,500 bird species, with around 1,400 (over 50%) endemic to Africa or its islands.
